BIM-M Benchmark Project | Case Studies: Custom Masonry Design and Construction
Research Project Description: The Building Information Modeling for Masonry (BIM-M) Initiative commissioned a set of case studies to identify areas where improvements in BIM software and workflows are needed in order to leverage the cost and labor savings potential of using BIM for designing and constructing in unit masonry. A set of contemporary building cases representing masonry veneer, load bearing masonry, and complex custom masonry buildings were completed, in order to:
• Identify areas where highly custom masonry building projects could benefit from BIM implementation.
• Improve our understanding of project coordination of masonry processes including the exchange of information using BIM and other construction IT technologies.
• Compare traditional construction processes with BIM and design-scripting approaches for the design of masonry buildings.
