PRESENTATION: Flashing, Moisture Control, and Movement Joints

This is a two-seminar event for a total of 2 LU/HSW. The first part will discuss flashing and moisture control in masonry buildings. Moisture management is essential to protecting building occupants as well as the building from damage from excessive moisture accumulation. Building materials that are exposed to prolonged damp conditions can lead to mold, bacteria growth as well as corrosion of steel and failure of adhesives. The second part will focus on best practice for design and construction of expansion and control joints to accommodate and/or restrict masonry material movement
Speaker: Mark Swanson, AIA, CSI, LEED BD+C, NCARB
Director of Industry Development and Technical Services
International Masonry Institute

Working with Revit since 2005, Mark is involved with the National BIM for Masonry workgroup working to raise the bar for Building Information Modeling content for masonry. He has lectured at Georgia Tech’s digital design laboratory and teaches a masonry workshop at the University of Minnesota College of Design’s School of Architecture.
