IMI | Minnesota Masonry Wednesday Series: Direct Design Software for Masonry Structures

January 20, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm UTC+0

Description

Speaker: Jason J. Thompson, VP of Engineering
National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA)

1.0 Lu/HSW/CEU
*This is an AIA program. Certificates and reporting will be done by the presenting company.

Description: NCMA released a new software package based upon the design provisions of direct design. This easy-to-learn software has the ability to generate complete structural designs or shop drawings simply by inputting the dimensions of the building and openings; greatly simplifying life for the designer and allowing the contractor to explore more cost-effective design solutions. Contractors, architects, engineers, building officials, and anyone engaged in checking or generating a complete, code-compliant structural design of concrete masonry construction won’t want to miss this seminar.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the presentation, participants will understand:
1. Application of the structural design standard, Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (TMS 402), and the corresponding use of the standard-based software.
2. Proper structural design of concrete masonry construction, reinforcement detailing, and architectural configuration using prescriptively defined design methodology.
3. Code-compliant building layout and detailing using TMS 402 and International Building Code provisions.
4. Understanding of loading requirements and load distribution for wind, seismic, dead, live, and snow loads.
